How long should my query letter be?
We recommend that Equeries be no longer than two paragraphs or
a maximum of 1,000 characters.
How do I write a query letter and logline?
For general rules about how to write query letters and loglines,
please go to Query Letters. If you
would like to have your equery reviewed and edited by our staff
writer, be sure to take advantage of our popular Equery Edit
service available only to our loyal Equery Direct customers.
Will you read and edit my equery or screenplay
submission for me before I send it?
Yes. If you would like to have your equery reviewed and edited
by our staff writer, be sure to take advantage of our popular
Equery Edit service available only to our loyal Equery
Direct customers. At this point, we are not able to read and edit
full-length screenplays.
Exactly how many screenplay agents and
managers will receive my equery letter?
Since agents and managers may add or remove their email addresses
from our submission list at any time, we cannot guarantee the
exact number of recipients. However, we do guarantee that a minimum
of 300 Screenplay Agents and managers will receive your submission.
Exactly who will receive my equery letter?
We are not allowed to distribute names or email addresses of
the individual screenplay agents and managers that receive submissions
from Equery Direct. However, after you complete your query letter
submission, you will receive a confirmation email including a
list of company names that received your submission.
What is the difference between a
screenplay agent and a manager?
The services provided by agents and managers are similar and
will vary according to each individual. Generally speaking, agents
focus their time more on selling completed scripts while managers
also invest a significant amount of time in developing the writers'
skills by helping them rewrite their scripts as needed.
How much do screenplay agents and managers
charge?
As a general rule of thumb, screenplay agents charge a 10% commission
of the sale price of your screenplay and managers will charge
a 15% commission. We do not recommend that you use agents or managers
that charge up front fees.
How long does screenplay submission take?
Your equery will be delivered by email as soon as you submit
it. The process of how long it may take to receive reponses from
screenplay agents is hard to say. We have had many instances where
screenplay agents responder to equeries within 5 minutes!
Some agents may take a few weeks or a month depending on how busy
they are or if they are on vacation, etc. The important thing
to remember is that you have to get your query letter out there
to Hollywood first. Submit your equery
today!
Will I receive a confirmation that
my equery has been sent?
Yes. After your equery is sent, you will receive a confirmation
email including a list of company names that received your submission.
